Items to Bring for an Inpatient Stay
If you or a loved one will be participating in an inpatient program at Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center, prepare for the stay by reading our packing list and our list of contraband items. Please call 757-627-LIFE if you have questions about medications or personal belongings.

- Any product with alcohol as one of the top three ingredients

- Belts, clothes with drawstrings, shoe laces and scarves
- Bleach and other volatile substances
- Camouflage clothing
- Cigars, cigarettes, e-cigarettes and dip
- Drugs, alcohol and liquids containing alcohol
- Drug paraphernalia
- Drug-related or sexually oriented material
- Electronic equipment of any kind
- Exercise weights
- Extension cords
- Flip-flops
- Glass items
- Hand-held fans
- Hangers (metal or plastic)
- Magic Markers
- Makeup compacts with mirrors

*Note: For safety of the patient, other items may be deemed contraband by staff and will not be permitted for use by the patient.
