Items to Bring for an Inpatient Stay

If you or a loved one will be participating in an inpatient program at Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center, prepare for the stay by reading our packing list and our list of contraband items. Please call 757-627-LIFE if you have questions about medications or personal belongings.

Packing List

  • Clothing without strings
  • Flat shoes without laces
  • Eyeglasses and contacts
  • Toiletries (cannot contain alcohol or come in a glass container)

Contraband List

  • Ace bandages
  • Aerosol cans
  • Aluminum cans (including soda cans)
  • Any product with alcohol as one of the top three ingredients
  • Baby powder
  • Balloons
  • Belts, clothes with drawstrings, shoe laces and scarves
  • Bleach and other volatile substances
  • Camouflage clothing
  • Cigars, cigarettes, e-cigarettes and dip
  • Drugs, alcohol and liquids containing alcohol
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Drug-related or sexually oriented material
  • Electronic equipment of any kind
  • Exercise weights
  • Extension cords
  • Flip-flops
  • Glass items
  • Hand-held fans
  • Hangers (metal or plastic)
  • Magic Markers
