Acute Inpatient Program
The Center for Intensive Evaluation and Rapid Stabilization at Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center treats adults who are experiencing an acute crisis and need immediate intervention. The program is for patients with emotional disorders, such as schizophrenia, delusional paranoid disorders, psychotic disorders, debilitating character pathology and major affective disorders. Treatment focuses on intensive evaluation, crisis intervention, stabilization and collaboration with community-based services.
Acute inpatient hospitalization occurs only with a physician’s order for conditions that cannot be effectively treated on an outpatient basis. As our most intensive level of care, it provides 24-hour nursing observation and care, daily interventions and oversight by a psychiatrist and highly coordinated treatment by a physician-led team of mental health professionals. Medically supervised detoxification for alcohol and drugs is offered as needed.
